sign language
This is me in sign language class....no not really. But they are visually-gesturing - which I was learning all about in my first class. (blurry photo taken of quite a hilarious little dance number - ode to Dr Suess - at a Festival my niece was dancing in). My class is four hour long and we could not talk during the class. Because we are to learn how to gesture and sign. It was odd to 'speak' with no sounds! I had to ask if it was okay to laugh (if it was appropriate) to ensure I wasn't being rude. You have to really use your expressions to convey meaning - that is what we learned most. Ice Breakers - counting to ten (sign) and the alphabet. My brain hurt after the third hour. But it is fascinating. It is a beautiful language (KJ - it reminded me of our acting classes....oh my). I will take it for ten weeks - there are 5 more tiers to take at the Deaf Centre and then you can apply to Red River for Deaf Culture studies or go on to be an interpreter. Those possibilites seem alluring - but we'll get more info and of course - see how I progress in sign. I do recommend you take it. We all get old and perhaps a little hard of hearing one day and it will come in handy then (if the memory sticks heh!) - Our instructor did a top ten reasons why to learn sign : you can talk through windows - and you can talk with your mouth full - both good ones I thought. Okay now I am really off to bed. Huzzy is leaf blowing.....bahhaahhaha night
